On of our members, Jim Robertson,  is interested in starting a networking forum for educators that work with high school students.

Jim teachs 11th and 12th grade  EMR, EMT and AEMT classes and was hoping for two things:

1)Networking for best practices with other high school instructors

    2) Working with other high school instructors to create a competition that would be relevant to our students.

Please feel free to post in this forum and encourage any others involved in EMS education in high schools to join as well.

Thanks for mediating and getting this topic started Tom.  My name is Jim Robertson, (also known as JC) and I teach EMS in the Vocational setting for 11th and 12th grade students in Van Buren County in Southwest Michigan.  What I was hoping would happen here would be a sharing of best practices but also a time of "togetherness" for those of us that deal with high school students.

Saying this is by no means exclusionary as I know that many of us deal with 19 and 20 year olds in the college setting.

Is there a means of testing ourselves in "battle" against other programs in a fun and meaningful way that doesn't deal with HOSA?

Barring that, would anyone be interested in partnering with the Van Buren Technology Center in the creation of said program.

EMS expo is good for those who have licenses but this would be for those who are either newly licensed or still in the program.

    What do you think?

Jacob Offerman form Livingston County EMS also teaches a high school class I know.  He may be a good person to talk with.

I teach a 2 year program for EMT at the Genesee Career Center, a part of the Genesee Intermediate School District in Flint, MI.  The 1st year students are juniors and seniors and are introduced to EMS, and the 2nd year students return for the state approved EMT program. I would be very interested in sharing ideas and instructional methods with you!
